Description: What Would You Surrender for God? Christians in the Middle East, in much of Asia, and in Africa are still being martyred for the faith, but how many American Christians are willing to lay down their smartphones, let alone their lives, for the faith? Being a Christian in America doesn’t require much these days. Suburban megachurches are more like entertainment venues than places to worship God. The lives that American “Christians” lead aren’t much different from those of their atheist neighbors, and their knowledge of theology isn’t much better either. Matt Walsh of The Daily Wire exposes the pitiful state of Christianity in America today, lays out the stakes for us, our families, and our eternal salvation, and invites us to a faith that’s a lot less easy and comfortable—but that’s more real and actually worth something. The spiritual junk food we’re stuffing ourselves with is never going to satisfy. As St. Augustine said over a millennium ago, our hearts are restless until they rest in Him. Only God Himself can make our lives anything but ultimately meaningless and empty. And we will never get anywhere near Him if we refuse to take up our cross and follow Jesus. This rousing call to the real adventure of a living faith is a wake-up call to complacent Christians and a rallying cry for anyone dissatisfied with a lukewarm faith.

Description: Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 Some Christians still worry that heathen hordes will one day arrive on American shores, armed with guns and knives, to crush our Christian way of life and destroy the American church. But instead of finding any evidence of Christianity in this country, they find the worship of actors, politicians, athletes, and imaginary figures on television. #2 The heathens are perplexed. There are supposed to be 240 million Christians within America’s borders, but they can’t seem to find any. They eventually come across a church that looks like a rehab center for wealthy drug abusers. #3 The heathens come across another church, which looks like a Christian church on the outside. But when they go inside, they see a rainbow flag hanging on the side of the building, and through a stained glass window, they can see a middle-aged woman wearing priest clothes handing out communion hosts to the other members of the church. #4 American Christians, who were ignorant of the fundamentals of their own theology, actually believed that Jesus was a created being. They were asked to renounce their religion or die, but most refused.

Description: Are you hesitant to reveal your Christian faith in the world today? Do you sit in silence as others ridicule church and Jesus Christ? Do you cringe but turn a deaf ear when others curse and take the name of the Lord in anger? You are not alone. Christians everywhere are shrinking into the background of life to avoid confrontation with a world that is blind to the ways of the Kingdom of God. Roberta Palmer Grummond's Christianity Is Not for Cowards offers a wealth of ways to combat unbelievers and remain grounded in faith even during trying times, including doing good works, spending time alone with God's Word, and facing fear head-on. Realizing that the world has been shaken to its core in these last days, she reveals signs that will identify Christians and encourages believers everywhere in a time when Christians inevitably face challenges to their faith in God. Christianity is not a religion for wimps and milquetoasts. It takes courage to be a Christian today, along with strength of character, wisdom, and a whole lot more, as outlined in this thought-provoking book. Indeed, Christianity Is Not for Cowards! My faith has been visited by this powerful book and has been strengthened. Now I feel compelled to be a more vocal and active Christian—a soldier for my Father, Jesus. —Pat Robbins

Description: The Vaqueiros de Alzada, a cattle-herding people in the Asturian mountains of Spain, have one of the highest suicide rates in Europe—and an attitude toward death that gives this statistic unusual meaning. This World, Other Worlds considers death among the Vaqueiros as a central cultural fact which reveals local ideas about the origin and destiny of humans, the relations of humans and animals, the configuration of the universe, and the nature of society. Interested chiefly in the conceptual and meaningful aspects of death, María Cátedra focuses on the cultural resources with which the Vaqueiros confront their own mortality—how they experience death and what this reveals about the way they see this world and other worlds. Applying sensitive ethnographic insight to a rich body of oral testimony, Cátedra discloses an unsuspected symbolic universe native to the Vaqueiros. Death is seen here in close, coherent relation to pain, age, and suffering; sickness and suicide, one must understand the cultural valuation of different ways of dying and the conditions under which suicides take place. To understand what it means to be a Vaqueiro is to understand how suicide can be perceived by a people as acceptable. A groundbreaking work in European ethnography, This World, Other Worlds takes symbolic analysis to a new level. In its illumination of local conceptions of death, grace, and sainthood, the book also makes a substantial contribution to the anthropology of religion.
