The relationship between man and horse on the Eurasian steppe gave rise to a succession of rich nomadic cultures. Among them were the Mongols of the thirteenth century – a small tribe, which, under the charismatic leadership of Genghis Khan, created the largest contiguous land empire in history. Inspired by the extraordinary life nomads still lead today, Tim Cope embarked on a journey that hadn't been successfully completed since those times: to travel on horseback across the entire length of the Eurasian steppe, from Karakorum, the ancient capital of Mongolia, through Kazakhstan, Russia, Crimea and the Ukraine to the Danube River in Hungary. From horse-riding novice to travelling three years and 10,000 kilometres on horseback, accompanied by his dog Tigon, Tim learnt to fend off wolves and would-be horse-thieves, and grapple with the extremes of the steppe as he crossed sub-zero plateaux, the scorching deserts of Kazakhstan and the high-mountain passes of the Carpathians. Along the way, he was taken in by people who taught him the traditional ways and told him their recent history: Stalin's push for industrialisation brought calamity to the steepe and forced collectivism that in Kazakhstan alone led to the loss of several million livestock and the starvation of more than a million nomads. Today Cope bears witness to how the traditional ways hang precariously in the balance in the post-Soviet world.

Cushing’s Disease: An Often Misdiagnosed and Not So Rare Disorder reviews the epidemiology of Cushing’s, including statistics on the incidence and prevalence of this disease. There are discussions of the signs and symptoms and the most common co-morbidities, such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, osteoporosis, amenorrhea, and infertility. Surgical, medical, and radiotherapeutic treatments, including indications, results, risks, and complications, are reviewed. Also featured is a chapter on the patient’s perspective, coping with Cushing’s, quality of life, and psychosomatic issues. This book is essential reading for the wide range of physicians who treat patients with Cushing’s disease symptoms, as well as biomedical researchers who investigate the etiology and mechanisms of rare genetic diseases, in particular rare endocrine disorders. Reviews the basics of Cushing’s disease and its interrelation with hormones, the brain, and bodily functions Includes chapters on diagnosis, surgical, medical, and radiotherapeutic treatments, and variations in presentation, including cyclical disease Presents the cognitive and emotional aspects of Cushing’s and the long-term sequelae Offers an important resource for physicians who are accustomed to treating individual symptoms rather than a disease complex Reviews multidisciplinary management, and post-treatment management of Cushing’s, including recommendations for Cushing’s Centers of Excellence

Ask yourself this; did Cushing's Syndrome exist in the times of our ancestors, centuries ago, or was it born in recent times? Where did it come from? How did we find ourselves diagnosed with it? Has it occurred to you that the foods that you consume on a daily basis directly affect your health? Would you like to know more about the one protocol that has worked for us, time and time again, in increasing our health to a point where "disease" can no longer exist? Through reversing our own chronic diseases and conditions - ranging from severe autoimmune, neurological, digestive - all the way to rare genetic conditions, we noticed a commonality during our healing journeys. We discovered a protocol that supercharged our health and subsequently worked well in the removal of any condition, disease, infection, abnormality, addiction, mental health condition - or any other label that you may come across. Through producing this series of information-assisted journals, our goal has been to reach you directly and share our experiences with you, with the aim of giving you hope. Regardless of what you have been diagnosed/labeled with - if applied correctly, you will experience significant positive changes. This journal has been broken down into two parts - the first part being information-based, and the second part being an assisted journal area for you to document, track and journal your personal daily progress, whilst being given helpful tips along the way. We didn't want to release just another "information overloaded" book which the reader does not benefit from or take action on immediately. Through this interactive and simplified approach found within this series of journals, you will achieve your health goals effectively. Welcome to the world of improved health and healing. Good luck on your journey.

Endocrine imbalances can cause a whole host of physical and mental health problems. Yet, there is currently no definitive source of information that shows how hormones can bridge the gap between mental health and medical health modalities. This book is a bold crossover between the disciplines of medical and mental health, exploring the understanding that some of the major mental diagnoses belong not only to the field of mental health but also to that of medicine. Clients with depression, anxiety, sexual dysfunction, infertility, suicidality, anger and rage, fatigue, apathy, cognitive impairments, confusion, eating disorders, and poor body image may actually be presenting symptoms of hormonal disorders. Beginning with patient stories that display the devastating effects of misdiagnosis and the struggle to obtain the correct treatment, it provides members of the mental health profession with an authentic understanding of the impact of endocrine imbalances and disorders. With contributions from some of the world's most respected physicians, psychiatrists and psychotherapists, it provides accurate medical and psychological information about hormone imbalances and disorders, how to recognise the signs in patients, and how to treat them effectively. A comprehensive resource that provides all the information needed to identify endocrine disorders in patients successfully; this book will be of immeasurable value to clinical psychologists, marriage and family therapists, social workers, doctors, nurses and mental health clinicians.

After 17 years as a personal trainer, I ran into health problems of my own, eventually having a name put to it..."Cushing's Syndrome," a rare adrenal disease. Tumors were growing on my adrenal glands over-producing Cortisol, your stress hormone. With 24/7 false fight-or-flight stress signals, the body goes haywire, producing horrific side effects such as weight gain around the midsection and back of neck, diabetes and blood sugar deregulation, inflammation, muscle deterioration, frail bones, hair loss, poor immunity, infertility, moonface, buffalo hump, extreme fatigue, brain fog, confusion, severe anxiety/depression and chemical imbalances. Being constantly diagnosed as "healthy" caused me to be told, when I was finally diagnosed correctly, that I had maybe five years to live. Misdiagnosis can be a killer.... It is now my personal mission and obligation to help those suffering from any chronic illness that steals your joy, and bring awareness to Endocrine Disorders. From my journey through Cushing's to Addison's to recovery-from triathlete to barely being able to dress myself and finally to recovering into a stronger person I never knew I was.
