DESCRIPTION BOOK:

"I should be dead. Buried in an unmarked grave in Romania. Obviously, I am not. God had other plans." At just under five feet tall, Virginia Prodan was no match for the towering 6' 10" gun-wielding assassin the Romanian government sent to her office to take her life. It was not the first time her life had been threatened--nor would it be the last. As a young attorney under Nicolae Ceausescu's brutal communist regime, Virginia had spent her entire life searching for the truth. When she finally found it in the pages of the most forbidden book in all of Romania, Virginia accepted the divine call to defend fellow followers of Christ against unjust persecution in an otherwise ungodly land. For this act of treason, she was kidnapped, beaten, tortured, placed under house arrest, and came within seconds of being executed under the orders of Ceausescu himself. How Virginia not only managed to elude her enemies time and again, but how she also helped expose the appalling secret that would ultimately lead to the demise of Ceausescu's evil empire is one of the most extraordinary stories ever told. A must-read for all generations, Saving My Assassin is the unforgettable account of one woman's search for truth, her defiance in the face of evil, and a surprise encounter that proves without a shadow of a doubt that nothing is impossible with God.

DESCRIPTION BOOK:

If movies and books like Belle, Twelve Years a Slave, The Butler, The Help, A Time to Kill, and Amistad have moved you, you'll love A Complicated Legacy, a novel by Baltimore writer Robert H. Stucky based on the true story of Elijah Willis, a white South Carolina planter, and Amy- the love of his life, the mother of his children, and his slave. Taking place in the decade leading up to the Civil War, it is written with a cinematic eye for atmosphere and setting, a linguist's ear for dialogue, and a historian's grasp of the powerful social forces and momentous events of the time. It is a riveting tale of personal transformation in facing the tide of sweeping social change. Elijah Willis fought family opposition, public opinion, and the law to free his family of choice and leave them his entire inheritance. In so doing, his and Amy's story becomes a microcosm of the human struggles that made the Civil War and the Abolition of Slavery both necessary and inevitable. Set in rural South Carolina, Baltimore, and Cincinnati, this vivid saga weaves history and humanity in a compelling testimony to the power of relationships to shape our destinies, even a century and a half later.

DESCRIPTION BOOK:

There has perhaps never been an age that set such great store in study as that in which we now live. The unfortunate thing about it is that so much of the study in our day is devoted to books and subjects in which there is little or no profit. Time is squandered on the purely speculative, the uncertain, the unprofitable, the unessential, the unproductive, the irrelevant, and the transitory. The most profitable of all study is wisely ordered Bible study. Its value is incalculable. It is beyond all comparison more profitable than any other study. It is the one superlatively profitable study. Bible study towers above all other studies in importance and value not only because of what the Bible is, but also because of what the Bible does. The Bible properly studied makes men wise unto salvation. The Bible makes Jesus Christ known so as to lead anyone who studies it to believe in Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God, and thereby to obtain eternal life in His name. The Bible imparts God's own nature to the men, women, and children who study it as they should and thus completely transforms their inmost and their outward life. When properly studied, this Book makes the one who studies it grow like the palm tree in all the graces and glories of Christian character. The Bible properly studied makes the heart pure and keeps the life white. The Bible, properly studied, brings peace, wonderful peace, to the troubled heart. The Bible, properly studied, brings joy as well as peace. In this book, I will tell you how to properly study the Bible: for light and not for darkness, for life and not for death, for blessing and not for cursing, and so it will lift us up to heaven and not sink us down to hell.

Turning This Thing Around

Release: 2012-12-22
Editor: Createspace Independent Pub
Pages: 134
ISBN: 1481276182
Language: en
Available for:

DESCRIPTION BOOK:

Turning This Thing Around is an inspiring memoir of overcoming personal struggles. This brutally honest, deeply personal account of redemption takes readers on a moving spiritual journey.Confronted with a myriad of obstacles–a debilitating arthritic disease, narcolepsy, anxiety and depression–the author was outwardly happy, but inwardly miserable. Pushed to the lowest point of his life, Maginn shares how he gradually turned things around and used his experiences to grow as a person.Supplemented by heartfelt poetry by the author and with quotes from Gandhi to Dr. Wayne Dyer to Eckhart Tolle, Turning This Thing Around has universal themes that speak to nearly everyone, as we all must face challenges as part of being human. It is a self-help memoir of sorts: the author discusses not only what he overcame, but also how he did so–and how others can, too. Unlike many popular memoirs on the market, this is a story that more people can relate to. Maginn was not raised in an eccentric family (Jeannette Walls in The Glass Castle, memoirs by Augusten Burroughs), nor did he travel to Italy, India and Indonesia, as Elizabeth Gilbert did in Eat, Pray, Love. Rather, Turning This Thing Around is a story of a normal young man's resiliency when battling extraordinary circumstances.

*Includes pictures *Includes accounts of the assassination and trial *Includes online resources and a bibliography for further reading *Includes a table of contents "This is not murder. It is a political necessity. It will make my friend Arthur president, and save the republic. ... I leave my justification to God and the American people." - Charles Guiteau In 1880, Civil War veteran James Garfield was running as a Republican for president, and one of his supporters was a man named Charles Guiteau, who wrote and circulated a speech called "Garfield vs. Hancock" that aimed to rally support for the Republican candidate. Though few knew it, Guiteau's family had already deemed him insane and attempted to keep him committed in an asylum, only to have him manage an escape from confinement. Garfield went on to narrowly edge Winfield Scott Hancock in the election, and Guiteau, harboring delusions of grandeur, believed he had helped tip the scales in Garfield's favor. As such, he believed that he was entitled to a post in Garfield's nascent administration, perhaps even an ambassadorship, and he continued to rack up debts while operating under the assumption that he would soon have the government salary to pay them back. However, despite lobbying around Republican headquarters in New York City and even approaching Cabinet members, no post was forthcoming for the troubled man. Eventually, in May 1881, Secretary of State James Blaine told him to never show up again. Enraged by the perceived slight, Guiteau bought a revolver and plotted to kill the president. He got his chance on July 2, 1881 at a railroad station, shooting Garfield in the back twice and bragging to the authorities, "I am a Stalwart of the Stalwarts...Arthur is president now!" In reality, Garfield would live for nearly 3 more months, and the poor standards of medical care in the 1880s would end up being responsible for the fact he did not survive wounds that he would've survived at the end of the 19th century. Indeed, Guiteau would cite medical malpractice at trial, stating, "I deny the killing, if your honor please. We admit the shooting." Those kinds of statements and his generally odd behavior helped ensure Guiteau's lawyers would claim he was insane, one of the first high profile attempts to use that as a defense against a crime. However, that never had much chance of succeeding, and claims of insanity were heartily rejected by prosecutors. George Corkhill, a D.C. district attorney and member of the prosecuting team, insisted, He's no more insane than I am. There's nothing of the mad about Guiteau: he's a cool, calculating blackguard, a polished ruffian, who has gradually prepared himself to pose in this way before the world. He was a deadbeat, pure and simple. Finally, he got tired of the monotony of deadbeating. He wanted excitement of some other kind and notoriety... and he got it." Throughout his trial, which was all but a foregone conclusion, Guiteau kept up the bizarre antics, including singing in the court, passing notes back and forth with members of the crowd watching the trial, and even openly planning his own 1884 presidential campaign. Of course, those plans were all for naught, because after he was convicted in January 1882, Guiteau was hanged on June 30 of that year. To the end, Guiteau acted oddly, including dancing his way up to the scaffold and reciting a poem he had written as his last words before he met his fate at the gallows. Garfield was the 2nd president to be assassinated after Abraham Lincoln, and today he is often remembered as one of the presidents to die in office after being elected every 20 years starting with William Henry Harrison's 1840 election through John F. Kennedy's 1960 election. The Assassination of President James Garfield: The History and Legacy of the President's Death chronicles the shooting and its aftermath.

*REVISED THIRD EDITION* ALL PROCEEDS GO TO CHARITY - THE CHRISTMAS BOX HOUSE INTERNATIONAL. We are all writing the story of our life. We want to know what it's about. What are its themes and which theme is on the rise? People want to know where this book is taking them and where they are headed. Not to spoil our heat-embracing ending, but I want to ensure that when the ending comes, it won't be shallow; I will have done something life-transforming for others through this book. This book is about that life-transformation we all want for ourselves. I began this book because I hit that point in my life. I became intrigued by people who had unearthed their true calling...or those people who were willing to try. In this book, Embraced, nothing seems braver to me than facing up to one's own identity and filtering out the chatter that tells us to be something we're not. In this book I hit on an incredible well-spring of honesty. Complete strangers opened their lives and their homes to me, confessing honesty and events that had never been revealed to ordinary people. By that I mean they did not have resources of character traits available to them to give them an uncommon advantage in pursuing a better life. I'm not an expert of any sort. I have not one credential and nothing to speak about in the academic department, just what you all read about in the book produced by author and owner of Jewel of the West Publishing, Jewel Adams, Out of the Closet, Into the Light, and the live video produced by the President of North Star International and Voice(s) of Hope, Ty Mansfield. These are the only things that I did that ever can be considered helpful additions to the world we share. I did learn from working on this book, Embraced, that it is the hard times that change the course of our lives. In this book I reveal these moments to show my own fallibility. This book is far different from what I originally envisioned. It reflects what I've found not what I predicted. This book does not follow a conventional outline because as you know, real life is not conventional. Each experience can become embraced in our life. So this book is to unearth the psychological secrets that haunt us. It is not organized by industry or personality type. It is not a travelogue. It is about misconceptions and fears. When people heard this book's title, the most common question I got asked was, "So is your book about your life, or about careers?" and I'd laugh and warn them not to get trapped by semantics. I answered, "It is about people who've dared to be honest with themselves." When reading it, I know you will become embraced.

What causes a son to finally say enough is enough ... and decide "Today is the day I am going to kill my dad."
