DESCRIPTION BOOK:

Thirty-five of my BFF and I decided last year to write snippets of our lives, reflecting on how we used our mojo to survive and thrive. Many of us escaped adversity in our home countries, including the genocide of the Killing Fields in Cambodia, the Cuban Revolution, and the brutal life in the rural mountain villages of Per. Others in my list of BFF escaped the equally harsh demons of drug addiction, while others survived poverty, racism, war, and all forms of discrimination. However, nothing could stop any of us in our aim to lead a successful life with no sulking. None of us considered success the result of becoming rich and famous; instead, to us, success meant bettering ourselves, bettering the world, innovating where we could, and creating businesses, such as Charles Schwab, EnergySolutions, Yahoo, HBO, MTV, Nickelodeon, parts of the Virgin Group, and many others. We have accomplished our goals through passion, leadership, and perseverance without sacrificing our values, and we continue to do so today. The book contains our stories in our own words, and just like Napoleon Hill did in his famous book Think and Grow Rich in 1937, we have analyzed our life trips and derived the twenty rules that we have consciously or unconsciously followed to achieve our individual success. The stories represent three dozen lifetimes of successes and failures, or perhaps we should call them learning steps. Through it all, we have used our mojo to the max and still do so today. We truly got mojo, and these are our stories of inspiration and perspiration.

DESCRIPTION BOOK:

Mojo is the moment when we do something that's purposeful, powerful, and positive and the rest of the world recognizes it. This book is about that moment--and how we can create it in our lives, maintain it, and recapture it when we need it. In his follow-up to the New York Times bestseller What Got You Here Won't Get You There, #1 executive coach Marshall Goldsmith shares the ways in which to get--and keep--our Mojo. Our professional and personal Mojo is impacted by four key factors: identity (who do you think you are), achievement (what have you done lately?), reputation (who do other people think you are--and what have you've done lately?), and acceptance (what can you change--and when do you need to just "let it go"?). Goldsmith outlines the positive actions leaders must take, with their teams or themselves, to initiate winning streaks and keep them coming. Mojo is: that positive spirit--towards what we are doing--now--that starts from the inside--and radiates to the outside. Mojo is at its peak when we are experiencing both happiness and meaning in what we are doing and communicating this experience to the world around us. The Mojo Toolkit provides fourteen practical tools to help you achieve both happiness and meaning--not only in business, but in life.

Alanna Christine always emerges smelling like a rose—or, at least, she sculpts the pile of crap she’s in to look like a rose. She likens herself to a phoenix, constantly burning up and rising from the ashes in this memoir that combines aspects of “Cinderella” with “The Little Engine that Could.” From being adopted and feeling out of place to contemplating suicide and going through a divorce, she’s conquered obstacles with grace and humor. With hard-fought wisdom, she’s forged ahead regardless of the stumbling blocks thrown in her path. Perhaps the biggest challenge has been living with multiple sclerosis, which has taught her that asking for help doesn’t indicate weakness—it indicates strength. She’s also learned that we truly don’t miss anything until it’s gone. In candid fashion, she looks back on her personal trials and tribulations, victories and defeats, and miracles she’s witnessed on the way. While she’s scared of what the future might hold, she’s already discovered strength she never knew she had. Everything was going along as planned for Lou Malloy. He had figured out a way to get the money he had hidden in a casino that he and Hilary had robbed, a year ago with Crushers help. However, like a house of cards, one thing and then another started to happen along the way. First there was the attempt on his life by a sergeant in the Timucua Tribal Police Department and then Malloy’s old nemesis, Detective Sal Ramiro, trying to arrest him for crimes that there was no evidence that Malloy did them in the first place. In the meantime, Hilary has decided she wants a pet she could call her own and told Malloy that she wanted a cat. Malloy hated cats, but agrees to her request because he thinks the cat would not last a week living on Turtle Point property. But Hilary’s cat is no ordinary house cat. When Malloy learns that it is a black three hundred pound wild Panther from a neighboring wildlife sanctuary, he tells Hilary that she had better learn to take care of it. Naming the big cat, MOJO, Hilary is thrilled, but there is a problem. MOJO has a female friend show up, a snow leopard that she names, Pumpkin. Now Malloy has two cats. But nothing is as easy as it seems. Having gotten the money out of its hiding place and in his gator hole, Malloy now had to gamble on how he could keep what he had regardless of the cats. As if dealing with the extra money he had to hide was not enough, his significant other, Hilary Kelly has been kidnapped by a vicious killer from Cuba and now Malloy has to gamble with not only Hilary’s life, but Bunny’s as well since she was taken at the same time as Hilary. Lou Malloy did not like to gamble at anything and yet, here he was putting everything on the line to ransom Hilary Kelly from the grasp of this vicious killer who has threatened to kill both Hilary and Bunny unless Malloy delivers the computer disks and hard drives used in the manufacturing of counterfeit futures contracts for counterfeit currency of various countries in the world. To make matters dicey, a secret black opts group within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has made it clear that they want the disks to prevent financial terrorists from getting their hands on the technology. With all this happening, Malloy has to travel to Cuba, with the help of a special team of operatives, including Crusher and the mysterious Blue, to rescue Hilary and Crusher’s wife, Bunny. In the process, Malloy has to outwit a Greek criminal and two dishonest multi-millionaires who are after to technology as well and will do anything necessary to get what they want. The problem for Malloy is that he never knew he had possession of the technology until after the second robbery of the same casino that he had robbed fifteen years ago. Now, even if he wanted to give the Cubans the technology, he couldn’t until Hilary and Bunny were returned to safety. Up until that point, he didn’t know what he had until he had a computer expert by the name of John Goodman, access the technology from the disks to learn just what was there. Having learned that he had something that could cost him his life, as well as the lives of Hilary, Crusher and Bunny, Malloy knew he had to take the necessary precautions to safe guard the information. Things start to pick up at Turtle Point when a team of Miami Gangbangers try to raid Malloy’s property and find the computer technology. Malloy and his friend, Crusher, fight them off, but that just starts the ball rolling. Before long, Hilary and Bunny are kidnapped and the kidnappers are heading to Cuba with Malloy, Crusher and the mysterious Blue in hot pursuit. Along the way, Malloy and his team, traveling in a special configured yacht, fight off a hurricane and battle the kidnappers off the coast of Key West only to watch the kidnappers escape resulting in Malloy fighting for Hilary’s life and the security of the technology he is sworn to protect. DESCRIPTION BOOK:

In Gomorrah, a New York Times Book Review Notable Book of the Year, Roberto Saviano revealed a true, devastating portrait of Naples, Italy under the rule of the Camorra, a crime organization more powerful and violent than the Mafia. In The Piranhas, the international bestselling author returns to his home city with a novel of gang warfare and a young man’s dark desire to rise to the top of Naples’s underworld. Nicolas Fiorillo is a brilliant and ambitious fifteen-year-old from the slums of Naples, eager to make his mark and to acquire power and the money that comes with it. With nine friends, he sets out to create a new paranza, or gang. Together they roam the streets on their motorscooters, learning how to break into the network of small-time hoodlums that controls drug-dealing and petty crime in the city. They learn to cheat and to steal, to shoot semiautomatic pistols and AK-47s. Slowly they begin to wrest control of the neighborhoods from enemy gangs while making alliances with failing old bosses. Nicolas’s strategic brilliance is prodigious, and his cohorts’ rapid rise and envelopment in the ensuing maelstrom of violence and death is riveting and impossible to turn away from. In The Piranhas, Roberto Saviano imagines the lurid glamour of Nicolas’s story with all the vividness and insight that made Gomorrah a worldwide sensation. “With the openhearted rashness that belongs to every true writer, Saviano returns to tell the story of the fierce and grieving heart of Naples.” —Elena Ferrante
